Cory Doctorow is an author, blogger, was co-editor of Boing Boing, and an open digital rights activist.
Cory Doctorow first came to the SF community’s notice for Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom (2003), releasing an electronic edition under a Creative Commons License. It was nominated for a Nebula and won the Locus Award for Best Newcomer. Along with his continued success in adult science fiction, Cory Doctorow published the YA Little Brother (2008) and its sequel Makers (2009). Little Brother, a call for digital activism complete with instructions, was nominated for a Hugo award, and won the Prometheus Award and the John W. Campbell Award.

Alongside Doctorow’s ongoing fiction writing career, Doctorow became a media personality, blogging at Boing. Boing, a webzine devoted to technology, culture, and with an antipathy to censorship. Doctorow is best known for his voice on the campaign against the extension of digital copyright and encroachment on writers’ and readers’ rights. Doctorow's Law reads: "Anytime someone puts a lock on something you own, against your wishes, and doesn't give you the key, they're not doing it for your benefit."

Doctorow is credited with the invention of the incredibly useful term ‘Enshittification', which he expanded on in Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What To Do About It, published in 2025.
